Memories are a song I used to play
Memories are a song you used to play and a melody you used to sing.
The lyrics have faded, and the tone is lost,
but once you hear it again later in life,
you will feel the moments you used to feel.
You’ll think about the thoughts you used to think,
and you’ll see the sky,
the way it looked, when you hear its voice.
I remember the piano I used to play,
and once I hear its songs,
memories come flooding through my ears
not my brain, nor my eyes.
I won’t see it, and I won’t think of it.
I might, perhaps, feel it,
but I am certain that I will hear it,
and I will remember it.
To me, that's what music is all about.
I don’t know how it began nor what the future will bring.
I don't know what I will gain or what I might lose along the way.
But I do know one thing: I love to play music.
It makes me forget, and most of all
It makes me remember
Because memories are a song I used to sing,
And remembering is a melody I continue to play
